Blog Awards

The Kreativ Blogger Award (April 30, 2012)

Thanks to Anna at the wonderful Mouse Illustration blog, Sketches & Jottings has been awarded the Kreativ Blogger.

It’s an honor to be included among the blogs she’s chosen for this recognition. Go see them here.  (And see the award rules at the bottom of this section)

So here are my 7 picks, in no particular order. They’re all worth a long visit because they inspire, educate or simply serve as models for what we’re all trying to achieve.

E*phi=log: A great sense of fun and wonderful illustrations.

Edward Cheverton Illustration: Musical art, lots of color and ever-increasing recognition.

The Sketchbook: Montreal artist and teacher Shari Blaukopf somehow manages to do an exquisite sketch a day.

Sveta Dorosheva: A Russian illustrator whose blog (although in Russia) is a dream,

Mummushka’s Sketch Journal: Out of Australia, with a wide range of luscious things to view.

Protein Art: One of the most interesting art blogs I’ve ever run across.  You just have to go and see for yourself.

Au Hasard: The constantly updated drawings and sketches of a young French artist with a talented eye.

The rules for this award are:

1. Thank the person who nominated you and link back to their blog

2. Share 7 things about yourself  (see my list of 7 things, below)

3. Pass the award to 7 nominees of your own choosing

Papa Sakura of Sakura Lights, a gorgeous art blog, has nominated Sketches & Jottings for the Versatile Blogger. I am honored. Read through his page here, and be sure to browse the entire blog. He’s very talented.

As a result, I am pleased to nominate more of the work that inspires my own blog.  I’m limiting the selections to 10 blogs, in no particular order.

Daily Art Fixx – by Canadian artist Wendy Campbell, exquisite posts and beautiful original art.

Rob Jelinski – A talented designer and artist, one of the must generous online supporters of all our Sketchbook Projects.

Being Marie Tomeoki – Born in Japan, now in Toronto, an emerging artist of huge passion. (Click on her name for her blog, and here for her professional portfolio)

Cheeky Tree – An imaginative, always upbeat maker of amazing silk scarves, who writes as well as she designs.

Heavenscent Elephants – The joyously uninhibited talent of Alexis Moulds is showcased here.

City Boy – An exuberant expression of color and a fascinating read. (Click on the name for the blog and here for the professional illustration website.)

Naomi Adams – Well known across the web in the last few weeks for finishing an exceptional sketchbook, she is a great source of tips and creative inspiration.

Wilson Stewart – A licensed land surveyor turned self-taught artist, the quiet elegance of his daily life is reflected in this New Hampshire lakes region blog.

Houdini – A recent find, I love this blogger’s mission to unite old, lost photos with the families they belong to.  Well explained and beautifully structured.

Postal Art – A genius idea that has people from all over the world send any kind of self-portrait on a postcard to the project, based in Trinidad and Tobago.

I’m following Hetterbell’s lead and merging the rules for the two blog awards by selecting 10 blogs (At the bottom of this page, you’ll find the official rules for both blog awards.) The idea is  to use the nomination to make others aware of great sites, as I hope I’m doing here.
