Brain Pickings, one of my favorite sites, reviews a new book of never before seen sketches for The Hobbit, including pencil, ink and watercolors. When J.R.R. Tolkien delivered the book to his publisher in 1936, it included less than two dozen illustrations. Now, 100 illustrations that were recently uncovered among Tolkien’s papers are released in Art of the Hobbit,  a volume celebrating the 75th anniversary of the book in 2012.
