Liz Steel of Sydney, Australia points out that the busy-ness of this sketch expresses the visual overload of a visit to her favorite tea room. This really is gorgeous. More inspiration on her blog. (Click sketch for a larger image)
I wanted to try to capture the essence of the place, and ended up drawing a plan, a general view, a chair, the cushions, the Chinese screen AND of course the tea and scones on my table.
OTT and gorgeous:) I’m off to her site right now …
I think all her work is amazing. Have a good visit!
As always, thanks for the hands up:)
Delightful.
So glad you enjoyed it. I sure did!
I love artwork with footnotes!
I am so with you on that. I gravitate to works that tell me in the artist’s words what they were thinking, or what they want you to know about the art. I love sketches in particular because so many artists share their thoughts. Great point, thanks.
It was only in the last couple of years that I got hooked on art journals. But mine are just line drawings with narrative which I make while traveling, waiting for the train, or waiting to to be served. Nowhere close to these fantastic artworks!
“Just” line drawings with narrative is a big under-sell!!
LOL, they’re doodles in need of perspective (my lifelong frustration!). Really! So I compensate with words
