John Hendrix is a well-known illustrator with years of major national projects in his portfolio, but it’s his personal sketchbooks I’m featuring here.
He draws in church, every Sunday, and the flawless sketches are so colorful and inventive that I’m posting them as today’s inspiration for The Sketchbook Project. I love his interpretations of what he hears from his pew.
“Simultaneous drawing and listening transforms familiar language into something new – a feedback loop of symbols, theology and wonder.” – John Hendrix
He also maintains a constant run of illustrations on Disasters. See some of those here, on my other blog.

Very cool idea featuring sketch books of artists. So intriguing.
Thanks Karen. I really like your blog. Especially the leaves.
Thanks so much, love your blog too.
